ROCKFORD, Ill. — Authorities have released the name and charges against the suspect in the hostage situation at Heritage Credit Union in Rockford, Illinois.
Police have identified the suspect as Nicholas August, 39, of Rockford.
According to a press release by the Rockford Police Department Saturday morning, authorities received a call for an armed robbery in progress just after 2:30 p.m. Friday.
After nearly six and a half hours, SWAT team members were able to convince August to surrender. He left the building with the hostage and was taken into custody.
Police said at the time of his arrest, August was in possession of a pellet gun, which resembled a gun.
August has been charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated unlawful restraint.
August was transported to the Winnebago County Jail. His bond was set at $2 million.
