PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria snow plows began their round the clock shifts at 7:00 a.m. Saturday in preparation for the mixed bag of winter weather.
Sie Maroon with Peoria Public Works said they are out pre-treating before the ice hits.
“We are going out with actual rock salt, which we normally haul in the trucks, and we’re putting it down,” Maroon said. “And what will happen is with the rain and precipitation that we’re getting and traffic when they drive on it will create a natural brine.”
Maroon said they know that the rainfall could wash away some of the salt that gets put down.
“But, we have to do something to try stay in front of the witnery mix or ice later this morning,” he said.
Every storm is different with different variables. One concern with accumulating ice is dangerous travel on roadways and downed power lines and outages.
