SPARLAND, Ill. — Two Peoria residents died on Friday afternoon after a head-on collision around 2:15 p.m. about two miles north of Sparland on Route 29.
The driver of one vehicle, Francis Hornung, 72, swerved into the northbound lane causing a head-on collision with Ioan Russ, who was driving a box truck.
Francis Hornung and his wife, Susan Hornung, 61, both suffered fatal injuries. Susan Hornung was pronounced dead at the scene, while Francis Hornung was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center where he later died.
Russ was transported to St. Francis with non-life threatening injuries.
Marshall County Sheriff Wayne Strawn said that weather was not a factor in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
