(UPDATED)
PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria’s Snow Fighters were out Wednesday night ahead of the snow, treating the city’s arterial routes with a salt mixture.
Sie Maroon, with Peoria Public Works, said as of Thursday morning, Peoria streets were passable and in decent shape heading into the morning commute.
As the morning commute ended, light snow continued to fall Central Illinois, making roads slick.
“Ground temperatures are definitely warming up. So, that coupled with the precipitation is causing the roads to be slushy, which in turn is causing them to be slick,” Maroon said.
Peoria crews will continue to monitor streets through Thursday afternoon and into the evening, plowing when necessary.
“If we can get motorists to slow down and really understand that road conditions aren’t dry, everyone will get where they need to be safely,” Maroon said.
