PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria’s CityLink carries on its tradition of honoring Civil Rights icon Rosa Parks on her birthday.
CityLink’s fixed route buses will have a reserved seat in honor of Parks on Tuesday, February 4, along with a reserved seat on Bus 2243 for the entire month in conjunction with Black History Month.
Parks refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama on Dec. 1, 1995, which became one of the most infamous symbols of the modern Civil Rights Movement.
“CityLink is pleased to continue the tradition of honoring Rosa Parks on what would have been her 107th birthday. We recognize the importance and impact the actions she took on a public transportation bus back in 1955 had on the Civil Rights Movement and her legacy is still felt today,” said Doug Roelfs, CityLink General Manager.
Rosa Parks died at the age of 92 in Detroit, Michigan on Oct. 24, 2005.
