PEORIA, Ill. — A man wanted in a double homicide in Waterloo, Iowa turned himself in to Peoria Police Wednesday night.
Waterloo Police obtained warrants for 36-year-old Matthew Buford III’s arrest Monday night after two women were found shot dead.
Buford surrendered at the Peoria Police Station around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Sgt. Michael Rasmussen with the Waterloo, Iowa Police Department said Buford has connections in Peoria, but it was unclear as to why that was his destination.
Rasmussen said a news release regarding Buford had been transmitted by the WPD on Tuesday.
Someone close to Buford likely informed him he was wanted, which led to his turning himself in, Rasmussen said.
He’s being held at the Peoria County Jail.
