WASHINGTON, D.C. — Several lawyers who prosecuted President Trump’s longtime ally Roger Stone have quit the case after the Justice Department overruled them and said the agency would lower prison time for Stone.
WMBD’s Greg and Dan reached out to Republican Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) for comment regarding the president’s potential influence.
“I have concerns with the President commenting ongoing prosecutorial decisions at the US Department of Justice. We have a constitutional obligation to protect the independence of the Justice Department and the federal judiciary. I am confident that the federal judge overseeing this case will independently review the facts and evidence and deliver an appropriate sentence, without influence of politics,” LaHood said.
