PEORIA, Ill. — With the constant freeze and thaw of winter, come potholes.
It’s a struggle the Peoria Public Works Department is very familiar with.
Public Works Assistant Director Sie Maroon said the streets take quite a beating in the winter months.
“A pothole is a failure in the pavement. But, what creates the pothole itself, is this moisture that we’re getting either from rain or the snow in the winter time with the ice of course,” Maroon said.
Maroon told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, his crews are focused now on patching the city’s potholes with a mix of materials.
“We do recycled hot mix. So, we’re recycling a lot of our product that we mill up during the summer months. And, then we use a cold mix. The reason we’re using both is because there’s not a lot of hot mix being made this time of year,” Maroon said.
Maroon said hot mix repairs take more time and are more effective in the dryer spring and summer months.
