PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. — Companies from Peoria and metro Peoria assisted Friday with an apartment fire.
A call came in just after 3:00 of a structure fire at 5533 N Galena Rd. Crews from Limestone, Chilicothe, West Peoria, Peoria, and Peoria Heights arrived on scene to an apartment fully involved.
Peoria Heights Fire Chief Greg Walters said there was no direct access to the apartment due to the way the complex was built.
“As we were getting water, the room itself, the apartment itself flashed over entirely,” Walters said.
The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes of arrival, according to Walters.
Crews on the scene were inspecting for hot spots and making sure there was no damage to the roof.
The resident of the apartment was transported to a local hospital to be checked out, but did not sustain any injuries.
“There’s nothing in it that is salvageable,” Walters said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
