Peoria County, IL. — A single vehicle accident claims the life of a Peoria man.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s office, Illinois State Police, Brimfield Fire and an OSF Life Flight Helicopter responded to a roll-over crash in the 15000 block of W. Southport Rd. around 1:50 p.m. Monday.
According to Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell, two occupants of the vehicle were traveling eastbound on W. Southport Road when the it left the roadway, rolled multiple times and landed in a field east of Eden Rd.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said the crash resulted in one death.
“After aggressive resuscitation efforts by EMS and LifeFlight staff, the passenger, 18-year-old Matthew W. McCuan, of Schweer Court, Peoria, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:04 p.m.” said Harwood.
An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
McCaun was a passenger in the vehicle driven by 20-year old Elizabeth Kris of Peoria.
Kris was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
“She was cited for both leaving the roadway and driving too fast for conditions to avoid an accident,” Asbell said.
The crash remains under investigation.
