EAST NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Deadly tornadoes hit central Tennessee early Tuesday morning.
A Peoria native, Wayne Johnson of the Brazillianaires band, now lives in East Nashville. He said he was awakened by a tornado warning in the middle of the night.
“So, I get up. Probably less than five minutes later, I hear this roaring wind, and the hail’s hitting the windows. It lasted about five minutes,” Johnson said.
Johnson told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, East Nashville suffered a lot of damage.
“We got the E-3. So, the tornado was an E-2 they said in Germantown, which is another neighborhood which is just north of town (Nashville). But, when it got to us, it was an E-3,” Johnson said.
Johnson’s home was untouched by the storm. But, blocks away, he said it was a different story. Historic homes in the area suffered major damage from the tornado.
Johnson said several clean up efforts in the Nashville area are underway. To learn how you can donate to Middle Tennessee’s recovery efforts, click HERE.
