PEORIA, Ill. — Former Illinois 18th District Rep. Aaron Schock on Thursday announced he’s gay.
Known among other things for his conservative voting record on social issues, in a statement on his website, Schock said if he were in Congress now, he would “support LGBTQ rights in every way I could.”
During his time in office, Schock received a “zero” score from the Human Rights Campaign which, among other issues, scores candidates based on their support of gay marriage.
Schock also voted against repealing the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
Schock held his seat in the United States Congress from 2009 until March of 2015, when he resigned amid allegations of improper use of campaign funds.
