PEORIA, Ill. — A suspected arson in South Peoria had fire crews out working early Saturday morning.
Firefighters were called around 8:45 to a 1 1/2-story house in the 1000 block of W. Adrian G. Hinton Jr. Ave.
Battalion Chief Clinton Kuhlman said they arrived to find a home almost fully engulfed.
“Our fire investigator did his investigation and determined it was likely set on fire on purpose because there was no power or electricity to the house,” he said.
“According to neighbors, there were possibly some homeless people staying in it.
“We found nobody there at the time of the fire.”
One firefighter did have to be taken to OSF for an injury evaluation.
The blaze was under control with ten minutes of the crew’s arrival, though firefighters did stay for close to two hours, battling hot spots.
Estimates show approximately $60,000 in damage.
