PEKIN, Ill. — Tazewell County Clerk John Ackerman said Friday morning that precautions have been taken to ensure that all of the county’s polling places are safe for voters in regards to the coronavirus.
The Tazewell County Clerk’s Office has been in contact with local, state and federal health officials the past two weeks in preparation for election day on Tuesday.
“We have hand sanitizer available for all Tazewell County voting locations that don’t have a proper wash facility available to them, so that voters can cleanse their hands afterwards,” Ackerman said.
Ackerman said the county’s polling stations will also be equipped with disinfecting wipes to clean voting equipment throughout the day as needed.
County residents can take part in early voting as it continues Friday through Monday at the Tazewell County Clerk’s Office, located at 11 South 4th Street, Suite #203 in Pekin, with extended hours.
“Some people, seniors in particular in facilities that have closed, may not have had time to submit a ballot. With that in mind, we will do whatever is necessary to get a ballot to them so that they can vote on election day. If those individuals will call our office, we will try to figure out a way to get those ballots to them,” Ackerman said.
Ackerman said vote by car is also an option for individuals that cannot physically get into the polling facility. Once notified that someone needs the service, two election judges can leave the polling facility to get the ballot to them so they can vote from their vehicle.
Early voting hours are HERE.
