WASHINGTON — As the nation weathers the coronavirus pandemic, there are things you can do to help your community…from donating money to checking on elderly neighbors.
Most importantly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says, it’s crucial help contain the spread of the coronavirus by washing your hands frequently with soap and water, practicing social distancing, avoiding touching your face, and disinfecting surfaces often. If you feel sick, stay home and monitor your symptoms.
Food banks and non-profits will likely be impacted in the coming weeks with schools closed and temporary business closures, leaving some workers without income.
Try to support local businesses as much as possible to help prop up the local economy. Consider tipping a little bit more than you would usually, as servers, delivery people and retail workers will likely see a change in traffic as people spend more time at home.
American Red Cross officials are urging eligible and healthy individuals to donate blood as soon as possible in order to prevent any potential shortages as concerns over COVID-19 rise. Blood centers nationwide have already seen a drop in donations since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak.
