PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria-Tazewell-Woodford tri-county area moved up Friday to 23 positive COVID-19 cases. Peoria remained at nine and Woodford stayed at six.
Tazewell had eight — two additional cases from Thursday, which weren’t from travel or any existing positive case.
Peoria City/County Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson said those new cases were hospitalized.
She touted OSF’s telehealth program, saying over 300 calls related to COVID-19 were taken through the month of March.
Hendrickson said while there was enough PPE as of Friday, she couldn’t guarantee there would still be enough in a week’s time.
The local peak of COVID-19, Hendrickson said, would be on or around Apr. 17. After the peak, she added, a second wave could happen in the fall or winter.
She also cautioned any potential vaccine would not be perfect, and encouraged continuing to practice social distancing and basic hygiene.
Pastor Samuel Duren reminded citizens while Sunday is Palm Sunday, it’s still essential not to participate in any large gatherings, including church services, despite the holy day.
