LOS ANGELES — Former Bachelor and Washington Community High School graduate Colton Underwood talked about his experience with coronavirus.
On March 20, Underwood made the announcement to his followers on Instagram that he had tested positive.
Underwood said when he first got sick, he thought it was just the flu.
“Until my symptoms became a little more aligned with what everyone was calling it, the coronavirus,” Underwood said. “I got it pretty early on.”
Underwood wanted to explain how he felt to his followers and inform them about the virus.
“I was like everyone else. Sort of confused, frustrated, didn’t know what was going on. So, I thought it was important to share with my followers just that, hey, this thing can affect anybody, and everybody, and does not discriminate,” Underwood said.
While being in quarantine, Underwood said that he has a great support system. Underwood has been staying with Cassie Randolph, the finalist in his season of The Bachelor, and her family.
“She really helped take care of me,” Underwood said. “It was nice to have their support.”
Randolph and her family tested negative for the virus.
On social media he encouraged everyone to stay home to protect loved ones.
Underwood tested positive for coronavirus right before the release of his new book, The First Time, and he said he had some concerns.
“I went back and forth very openly with was this the right time, was it not?” Underwood said. “If this book can help one or two people realize something new about themselves or help them out, then I consider it a win and a good time.”
Underwood said he was still very excited to release the book.
“Hopefully it is a good distraction for people,” Underwood said.
The book, Underwood described, was a form of therapy for him. The book goes through his time growing up, dealing with bullying, struggling with identity, football, his parent’s divorce, and also being on national television.
