PEORIA, Ill. — It looks as though the JCPenney at Northwoods Mall has been spared from closure, at least for now.
The corporation on Thursday night released a list of the first 154 stores it plans to close as the company files Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and that list did not include Peoria.
There were five stores in Illinois on the list: Mt. Vernon, Calumet City, Freeport, Bourbonnais, and Carbondale.
Peoria’s survival for this round of cuts does not mean the store is out of the woods, however.
The company has said it would be closing 242 stores in total, leaving 604 by 2022.
