PESOTUM, Ill. — Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly on Thursday announced the on-duty death of ISP District 10 Trooper Todd Hanneken.
On March 25, at approximately 10:42 a.m., Trooper Hanneken was in his police vehicle and was involved in a single vehicle accident.
Hanneken was taken by Airlife to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Life saving measures were unsuccessful. Trooper Hanneken succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11:45 a.m.
“It is with profound heartache and unfathomable sadness that I inform you of the death of Trooper Todd Hanneken. We are asking the public to respectfully give consideration to the family of Trooper Hanneken and the ISP while we grieve and work through this tragedy,” Kelly said.
Trooper Hanneken was 45-years-old and was a 20-year veteran of the ISP. He is survived by a wife Shelley and two sons, a brother and his mother and father.
Jerry Hanneken, Trooper Todd Hanneken’s father, retired from the Illinois State Police.
