EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The identity of the man found drowned in the Illinois River Friday afternoon has been released.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley says Darrell Wayne O’Neal, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. O’Neal’s body was recovered from the harbor in East Peoria along the Illinois River.
Hanley says the preliminary autopsy results confirm O’Neal died of drowning, that there were no signs of trauma, and that toxicology results are pending.
Published reports said O’Neal was suspected of shoplifting from the East Peoria Walmart before jumping a fence at the Coast Guard station.
