Peoria, Ill — We’re learning more about a reported police standoff near Worley Lake in North Pekin.
Police blocked an area of IL Route 29 & 98 for roughly two hours Thursday night in what’s being described as a standoff, preceded by a traffic-stop-turned police chase.
According to news partner 25 News, Deputies arrested 41-year-old Keith Goembel on a number of felony warrants as well as aggravated fleeing and eluding, but not before a brief car chase across the Peoria-Tazewell County line.
Officers had reportedly attempted to stop a vehicle along Freemont Street in Peoria County around 5:35 p.m. Goembel was inside at the time. Police said the car took off toward North Pekin.
At the ensuing Worley Lake standoff, dispatchers called in the Central Illinois Emergency Response Team.
25 News reporter Paige Blanzy said at the scene she could hear negotiators pleading with a subject to drop a knife and get out of the car.
Goembel was ultimately taken into custody with no injuries reported.
Peoria Police, Bartonville, Tazewell County, Pekin Police, North Pekin, Peoria County & Pekin Park District all responded.

Peoria, Ill — We’re following reports about a standoff near North Pekin Thursday night.
Initial reports from our news partner 25 News indicated a standoff suspect had been taken into custody following an encounter in the area of IL Routes 29 & 98.
Reports about the suspect’s arrest were seen around 8 p.m. It’s unknown how long police had been standing off with the subject at the scene.
According to WEEK-TV reporter Paige Blanzy, police negotiators appeared to be trying to talk a man out of a vehicle. Officers were reportedly telling the subject to drop a knife.
Peoria Police, Bartonville, Tazewell County, Pekin Police, North Pekin, Peoria County & Pekin Park District all responded.
Images at the scene seemed to show a larger tactical vehicle had been called to assist.
