TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill. – A building damaged in the recent tornado outbreak that claimed lives in other parts of Illinois is getting rebuilt.
Our news partner 25 News reports the salt storage facility at the Tazewell County Highway Department will be replaced with a temporary facility, after the salt dome’s roof blew off.
County Engineer Craig Fink says a temporary facility is necessary to store the county’s road salt, because covering it with tarps is “too dangerous.”
Wind gusts December 10th at the highway department were clocked as high as 85 miles per hour.
In a typical winter, Tazewell County uses 3,000 tons of salt on local roads.
