Peoria, Ill — Central Illinois will ring in the New Year while bracing for the region’s first significant winter storm.
The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm watch throughout Saturday and part of Sunday this coming weekend.
Forecasters say total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are possible.
They warn travel could be very difficult from snow and ice with slippery road conditions developing Saturday morning and continue through Saturday night.
Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins with our news partner 25 news adds that early Sunday morning temperatures will be in the single digits with sub-zero wind chills.
Residents are urged to keep a close eye on the weather as we approach the New Year’s holiday weekend.
