PEORIA, Ill. — Police have arrested a suspect in connection with an apparent armed robbery that happened early Saturday morning in Peoria.
Damarious Matthews, 20, was taken into custody and taken to the Peoria County Jail.
Just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, officers in the area of Sam J. Stone Avenue and William Kumpf Boulevard were approached by a male claiming he’d been robbed.
The male told police he was giving someone a ride when the passenger pulled a gun on him and demanded money and his phone.
The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black hoodie and light colored jeans.
Police searched the area and found Matthews – who matched the description – running down Romeo B. Garrett Avenue.
A perimeter was set up, and Matthews was tracked down by a K-9. He was hiding behind some shrubs.
A loaded gun was recovered, as well as the stolen phone and money.
