PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria area residents will have access to another marijuana dispensary, but some local elected leaders aren’t very happy about it’s location.
It will go in along Brandywine Drive near Northwoods Mall and just barely half-a-mile from where Trinity on Glen, another pot shop, already stands.
According to 25 News, At-Large council member Elizabeth Jensen voted no on the measure to approve a special use permit for the business Tuesday night, saying she didn’t want pot dispensaries to line busy streets like payday loan places have done along Knoxville and University, creating blight in nearby communities.
District 3 Council member Tim Riggenbach reportedly argued that marijuana dispensaries are good business neighbors and — QUOTE — “some of the safest places in town”.
The final council vote was 9 to 2 in favor of approving the special use permit.
