PEORIA, Ill. — He says, “it’s become more likely that regular seasonal things will become what people have rather than COVID.”
Dr. Doug Kasper, with the University of Illinois School of Medicine, spoke on the current state of the novel coronavirus pandemic during a visit with WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show.”
On Tuesday, Kasper suggested COVID-19 is no longer the threat it once was now that new case numbers are dropping dramatically across the country.
He added that since masking policies are being relaxed in many places, there will also be plenty of other illnesses spreading just as rapidly or more so than COVID-19 in the coming weeks and months.
“We’re moving out of this phase where ‘everything is COVID’ back into a phase that it’s become more likely that it’s not COVID,” speaking specifically to those who develop symptoms which might remind them of the novel coronavirus.
At the same time, he says there will still be a ready supply of at-home COVID-19 tests for those individuals who want one.
He says people can expect the familiar tight COVID testing and distancing protocols to remain in place at most medical centers and hospitals as medical professionals will still treat the virus very seriously and attempt to continue to control its spread within their own working environments.
