CHICAGO, Ill. – You could “Enjoy Illinois” because it has has “Mile After Magnificent Mile” — or, you could just know the state by its new tourism slogan: “Middle of Everything”.
Governor JB Pritzker, in launching the new tourism marketing campaign that will highlight virtually everything the whole state has to offer, says you know what else the state has that’s great?
“Not only is Illinois in the ‘Middle of Everything,’ but the people who call this state home are unmatched in their creativity, their welcoming spirit, their kindness, their innovation,” said Pritzker, at a news conference Monday at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium.
The campaign is fronted visually by Illinois native, actress and comedian Jane Lynch, who puts some of her Illinois State University education to work.
“I’m thrilled for you to see this new Illinois tourism advertising campaign,” said Lynch, virtually, at the news conference. “It was an absolute pleasure to work with the Illinois Office of Tourism, and extra special for me, as this is the first time I’ve ever directed anything.”
Lynch was referring to the television commercials that are a part of the campaign, vitised many fo the tourism attractions throughout the state.
Pritzker, while hoping more people from out of state visit Illinois, also wants to see Illinois residents visit other parts of the state.
“There are people who are here in Chicago and in the Chicago area, who have never been to the Shawnee National Forest, or have never been to the wine trail in Southern Illinois,” said Pritzker. “These are terrific places to visit. Driving Route 66 is an exciting thing for someone who has never done it.”
Pritzker says Chicago residents are one of several “target audiences” for the “Middle of Everything” campaign.
The Shedd, by the way, is where Pritzker claims he proposed to his wife, MK.
