CAMBRIDGE, Ill. – A man from Granite City has officially entered a not guilty plea and a demand for a jury trial, after being charged with the murder of a sheriffs deputy from Knox County late last month.
Court records in Henry County indicate Daylon Richardson, 22, entered the plea through his attorney, after a judge Monday found probable cause for him to be tried on two counts of First-Degree Murder, and counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Improper Lane Usage.
Richardson is believed to have led police on a chase from near downtown Galesburg to U.S. 150 just past the Knox/Henry County Line April 29th, striking and killing Knox County Sheriffs Deputy Nicholas Weist as he was laying out spike strips.
A pre-trial hearing in Henry County is scheduled for June 16th, with a trial beginning as soon as July 5th.
Richardson is jailed, so far without bond, in Henry County.
