PEORIA, Ill. — 61 fire departments and a million gallons of water.
That’s what it took to contain a fire which broke out and devastated half-a-dozen structures at the Grand Bear Resort at Starved Rock late Monday.
Fire crews have said they can confirm no injuries in connection with the blaze.
Utica Assistant Fire Chief Drew Partain told 25 News that all water utilized in the firefighting effort had to be transported in and that crews were significantly challenged by whipping wind gusts of 35 mph or more.
Grand Bear Resort said on Facebook that the main lodge, waterpark and food & beverage as well as a majority of the cabins and villas remain unaffected.
The resort reportedly expects to resume operations within 24 hours.
Anyone who wishes to help out with the recovery or to help those most adversly impacted are urged to contact the Red Cross of Illinois Valley.
