PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria’s local Head Start programs are getting a major boost in the form of federal grants through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
District 17 Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL) shared the good news on Friday.
More than $3.6M dollars will be going to the Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, which appropriates support for Head Start initiatives in the community.
Bustos, who sits on the Congressional subcommittee in charge of appropriating this funding, says the federal grant money will help Peoria children and families get a “jumpstart on a quality education”
Head Start promotes school readiness for young children from birth to age five by providing programming to enhance cognitive, social and emotional development.
