PEORIA, Ill. — A well established local politician is beaten by a grass-roots, upstart opponent, who says he benefited from a newly drawn 93rd State House District.
Travis Weaver says he felt confident facing incumbent Republican Mark Luft in Tuesday’s primary race because the 93rd district is almost entirely different from what it was.
“All of that new geography is a lot of really rural, conservative farm ground”, said Weaver.
He said he benefits from some deep roots within the newly drawn district.
Weaver says he hopes to take his experience as a former finance specialist at Caterpillar to advocate for solutions to Illinois’ ongoing financial issues, including the state’s massive unfunded pension liability problem.
In a statement issued following the final vote count Tuesday, Weaver said, “I look forward to working with business owners, farmers, parents, teachers, police, and hard-working citizens who are so ready for positive, conservative reform. I am confident Illinois’ best days are ahead, but only if we all work together and make it so.”
