PEORIA, Ill. – It looks like the race for a seat on the Peoria Public School Board starting next month might almost be too close to call.
With all ballots cast and three people running for two seats, incumbent and school board president Greg Wilson was the top vote-getter for a seat from District Two, followed by newcomer Paris McConnell.
That would leave incumbent Daniel Walther off the board, but the difference in votes between Walther and McConnell is just 15 votes.
As election workers were trying to wrap up Tuesday night, Walther showed up at the Peoria County Board of Elections asking questions about the race.
According to Peoria County Election Commission unofficial vote totals, of all the votes cast in the race, there were 1,960 “undervotes” — where voters only voted for one candidate and not two — and one “overvote” — where one voter voted for all three candidates.
It’s not clear yet if Walther will challenge the results, but the new board members would take office next month.
RESULTS: (Top two get seats on the board)
Gregory Wilson 1,551 (34.76%)*
Paris McConnell 1,463 (32.79%)*
Daniel Walther 1,448 (32.45%)
