PEORIA, Ill. – The victories continue for candidates in local races following Tuesday’s primary election.
Woodford County Chief Sheriffs Deputy Dennis Tipsword, in the newly 105th Illinois House District, bested three other candidates in the Republican primary, and will become the replacement for State Representative Dan Brady, unless Democrats slate a candidate.
Brady is now the GOP nominee for Secretary of State.
Meanwhile, Peoria businessman and incumbent State Senator Win Stoller defeated certified financial planner Brett Nicklaus of the Dixon area to be the GOP nominee for the 37th District State Senate seat. In that race, a Democrat could also be slated to run, but so far, none is.
The Tazewell County Treasurer may end up out of a job later this year, after her bid for a higher political office came up short in Tuesday’s primary election.
Mary Burress lost to Morton doctor William Hauter, who had 57 percent of the vote in the race for an Illinois House seat representing the 87th District.
Hauter says his was a “victory for conservative reform that Illinois desperately needs.”
Burress, meanwhile, says she’s proud of her campaign, and hopes political leaders will start understanding the challenges for businesses and families.
Since Burress was not running for another term as treasurer in Tazewell County, Hannah Clark will replace her after defeating Mindy Darcy in the primary, 53 percent to 47 percent. Democrats could still slate an opponent for the November election, however.
