SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois has a new tool to help police investigate gun crimes statewide.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Rauol said “Crime Gun Connect” is an online database of gun tracking records dating back more than a decade.
Previously that information was in paper form, making it hard for various departments and agencies to compare notes and link crimes.
“The platform also incorporates sophisticated mapping technology, as well as an algorithm that helps identify the individuals most likely involved in trafficking,” Rauol said.
Law enforcement agencies will have access to Crime Gun Connect as part of a larger online portal maintained by Illinois State Police.
