EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The East Peoria City Council is okaying moving forward with joining litigation against companies that knowingly use chemicals in products that in turn end up in the drinking water supply.
Council members Tuesday night, without discussion, approved linking up with the law firms representing other communities involved in similar litigation, and paying a contingency fee.
The chemicals are known as PFAS, and have been used in Scotchguard and Teflon, among other things.
Elevated levels of PFAS have been found in East Peoria’s water supply, and a settlement could end up in manufacturers having to pay to fix the water system.
