PEORIA, Ill — It’s gotten more and more difficult to find qualified staff in many workplaces, including those which involve emergency response.
An event planned for Tuesday in Peoria might help with that, at least for the longer term.
The Central Illinois Emergency Expo is scheduled Tuesday in one of the parking lots at the Shops at Grand Prairie and is being described as a “family friendly” event, suggesting parents are encouraged to bring their children out to see the sights.
There will be fire engines and apparatuses, medical helicopters, police cruisers and armored vehicles, rescue boats, and much more.
Families are invited to explore vehicles, talk with professional first responders, and try on gear during the event.
Inspiring youngsters toward police, fire and paramedic positions is something public sector leaders have wished for as fewer and fewer of them seem to be as interested in such work.
Emergency response agencies from Akron-Princeville, to the Illinois Air National Guard — Peoria Fire and police will all be in attendance.
Today’s event is set to continue from 4 to 7 p.m.
