PEORIA, Ill. –Peoria Public School officials have released more information about new and ongoing rules at interscholastic youth sporting events, including high school football games, following a violent brawl at a game last Friday.
The fight cleared the stands at Peoria Stadium during Peoria High’s first game of the season with Metamora.
On Tuesday, the District released an update about new rules for entry into such events.
According to the PPS 150 release, moving forward, students will still earn the privilege of attending athletic games, taking into account factors such as their behavior, attendance and performance in school.
The District says a game between PHS and MHS has been rescheduled to Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
Another PHS tilt against Richwoods High School has been rescheduled for Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
The district’s attendance rules now include a provision prohibiting bags or backpacks at games and students must have a school I.D. to get into games from now on and that will be strictly enforced.
Also, District Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat tells WMBD News families can expect all high school football games to come with only one point of entry for all attendees.
All primary and middle school students in attendance at games must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
And the rules checklist states that only eligible students from participating schools may attend.
The district warns that any violation of these rules or “disruptive behavior” may result in removal from a game and possibly having further privileges revoked.
Meanwhile, Peoria Police say they have continued to investigate Friday’s brawl, which reportedly included as many as 11 juvenile suspects.
CORRECTION: Our original story mentioned that the game at the center of Friday’s violence was rescheduled. That is not the case. The rescheduled game will be played between PHS and Manuel High School, not Metamora.
