PEORIA, Ill. — Travelers in the Peoria metro area are being reminded about expediency and security as they prepare to launch their Labor Day weekend travel plan.
While there are some concerns about the potential for systemic delays in nationwide air travel due in part to traditional holiday travel upticks, the Director of Peoria’s airports Gene Olson says informational picketing by the International Pilots Association at major U.S. airports should not cause any major delays for passengers.
“All of the pilots who were scheduled to work are still set to work,” says Olson.
He tells WMBD News he doesn’t expect Peoria’s airport will see a major increase in foot traffic this weekend, although that could change.
Olson, however did want to make sure and remind area travelers that it’s best to arrive at least 90 minutes early at the airport for your flight. He says it allows time and space in the rare case something goes awry.
“So the departure time on your ticket is wheels up, it’s not ‘show up ten minutes before'”.
He’s also urging all passengers to ensure the safety and security of their vehicle when parking at General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.
The air hub, along with communities across Peoria, continue to see an uptick in vehicle burglaries and vehicle thefts.
“Hide the valuables you’re going to keep in your car, take your keys with you and lock the car.”
As of noon Thursday, all arrival and departure flights at Peoria’s main airport were running on time.
