PEORIA, Ill. – Some people sleep in on holidays. Others get up and run four miles, including up the 400 foot incline of a bridge, for a good cause.
Those people took part in the annual “Bridge to Bridge” run — a trek between Peoria and East Peoria, featuring both the Bob Michel and Cedar Street Bridges.
The Illinois Valley Striders hosted the run Monday, which helps pay for other runs benefiting Saint Jude and UnityPoint Proctor Hospital.
“We finance all the medals and all the equipment needed in order to be able to supervise those races,” said John Pes, race director, to 25 News. “It’s the idea that we could do something that we enjoy and something that is good for our health and pass it on to other people.”
Guillermo Rolon, 44, of Peoria came in first, with a time of 22:15, including what is considered the hardest part of the course between Peoria and East Peoria — the Cedar Street Bridge.
