PEORIA, Ill. — Today marks another key round of collective bargaining for representatives with the Peoria Federation of Teachers Local 780 and the Peoria Public School District 150 administrators.
Today’s talks will once again include a federal mediator.
A statement from PFT Local 780 President Jeff Adkins-Dutro says union teachers are poised to bargain “today and into the night to make progress” if needed.
Already, leaders with the district have said the federal mediator involved in these labor talks is willing to continue meeting with both sides “as many times as needed”.
The statement from Adkins-Dutro also said teachers don’t want to strike, but that having the authority to do so will help them achieve their aims in contract talks.
Teachers have expressed serious reservations in recent days about what they see as earlier misrepresentations of the district’s finances.
New District 150 School Board President Martha Ross has promised full transparency as the bargaining process continues.
