PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man is going to federal prison for more than a decade after being found with both methamphetamine and a gun in his possession earlier this year.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a federal judge has given Raphael Thompson, 34, 66 months in prison for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, and another 60 months for Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking.
Prosecutors say a search of Thompson’s East Arcadia home prior to his indictment in March turned up a loaded handgun with a defaced serial number, more than 30 grams of pure methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and so-called “molly” pills.
He pleaded guilty back in May.
Thompson could have faced as much as 40 years in prison on the meth charge, and life in prison on the weapons charge.
