SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – There has been some significant slowing of the spread of COVID-19 in the last week throughout the State of Illinois, even though the number of new cases did not drop much.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says only three Illinois counties are now rated at high levels of community spread of COVID as of Friday, down from 20 last week. 33 Illinois counties, including Peoria and Tazewell, are listed at “medium” — down from 46.
Woodford County remains at “low.”
17,373 new COVID cases were reported in the last week, down 211 , and 1,069 are in state hospitals with COVID — down 84.
Meanwhile, the state says roughly 19,000 doses a day of the new bivalent COVID booster vaccine, which protects from Omicron variants, are being administered statewide.
