PEORIA, Ill. — With less than a week to go before the November election, one of Illinois’ two candidates for the seat in Congress from the 17th District is campaigning in Peoria.
Republican Esther Joy King (R-East Moline) tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, what she lacks in political experience, she makes up for with determination.
“With an attitude of learning and humility, not thinking I know everything, but coming to the table and saying…who are the smartest people on these issues that I need to have around me, to really understand how to get things done,” King says.
What King says she does bring to the table is a problem-solving skill set.
“My job, as representative, is to help congregate people to get things done. So, I 1,000%, have that sheer will to drive forward, and to bring people along,” King says.
King says her time in the military and as a JAG lawyer have given her some familiarity with how the government works.
King is also meeting with some of Peoria’s small business owners Wednesday, talking about struggles they’re facing now with inflation and the economy, and what can be done to create better business opportunities locally.
King faces former TV meteorologist Eric Sorensen (D-Moline) next Tuesday.
Also on the campaign trail in Central Illinois Wednesday was Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL). He was stomping in Bloomington.
