PEORIA, Ill. — This year marks the 51st year that Peoria’s South Side Mission will offer its Holiday Meal ministry.
The Mission’s Rich Draeger says they’ll prepare and deliver meals to those who can’t get out or who may be alone during the holiday season.
“Last year, we did over 2,700 (meals), and that’s not even the most. One year before that we did 3,300 or 3,400,” Draeger says.
The Mission’s Rich Draeger tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, they’ll cook up another 400 pounds of turkey for their sit down meal on Thanksgiving Day.
“We still need some people to help with turkey carving. We used to do all of this the day of (Thanksgiving),” Draeger says.
South Side Mission also needs about 20-25 delivery drivers on Thanksgiving Day.
“Chef Chris and his crew prepare the meals, and we store them on a refrigerated truck before they’re delivered. This year we’re having trouble finding a refrigerated truck for sure,” Draeger says.
The Mission has been putting the word out, contacting some of the local grocery stores and other places, but if you know of a refrigerated truck that would be available November 22-25, contact South Side Mission.
And, if you know someone who can’t get out, or will be alone on the Thanksgiving holiday, call South Side Mission.
