PEORIA, Ill. — A suspect is in custody after allegedly leading police on a car chase, then a foot chase Saturday morning in Peoria.
Peoria Police Spokesperson Semone Roth says around 8:45 a.m., officers found a stolen vehicle on S. Griswold. When they attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle sped off. A short time later, the driver left the vehicle, running from police.
Roth says 18-year-old Andre Whitaker was apprehended on Malone Street, then placed into custody without incident. Officers found a loaded handgun on Whitaker while searching him.
Whitaker was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a handgun, defacing a firearm, obstructing an officer, possession of a stolen firearm, fleeing police and several traffic violations.
Following his arrest, Whitaker was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
