PEORIA, Ill. — This year marks the 51st year that Peoria’s South Side Mission will offer its Thanksgiving Meal ministry.
The Mission will prepare 900 pounds of turkey and all the fixings, then deliver those meals to people who can’t get out or who may be alone on Thanksgiving Day.
“Last year, we did over 2,700 (meals), and that’s not even the most. One year before that we did 3,300 or 3,400,” the Mission’s Rich Draeger says.
This year, the delivery area has been expanded to include all of Peoria, Peoria Heights, Bartonville and some surrounding areas, as well as senior housing complexes in those areas.
South Side Mission will cook up another 400 pounds of turkey for a sit down meal for the community on Thanksgiving Day.
If you know someone who can’t get out, or will be alone on the Thanksgiving holiday, call South Side Mission.
The deadline to sign up for meals is Friday, November 18.
