PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria teenager will go to prison for 30 years after being convicted of a 2020 murder.
Peoria County Court records indicate Mikeal Reed, 19, was sentenced Thursday after being convicted in October for the shooting death of Terrence Dunigan, Jr. 21.
Dunigan was reportedly shot in September of 2020 on West Woodhill Lane, following a dice game.
Two other people arrested in connection with the murder — Tayla Zolicoffer, Jr., 21, and Keon Patterson, 18 — are still awaiting trial in the case.
Reed must serve all of the sentence before he can be released. Under state law, Reed could have received anywhere from 20 to 60 years in prison, in part because of his lack of a criminal record.
