PEORIA, Ill. – A Washington woman will spend several years in prison in connection with a fatal accident she caused in Peoria in 2021.
Peoria County Court records indicate Destinee Cole, 23, was sentenced Thursday afternoon to four years in prison with credit for a day already served in jail, on a charge of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence. She pleaded guilty to the charge earlier this year.
Cole, police said, had marijuana in her system when she struck Corey Griffin, 33, and his motorized bicycle near Waverly and Kellogg June 7, 2021.
Griffin was wearing a helmet, but died at a local hospital.
Cole could have received as much as eight years in prison.
