PEORIA, Ill. – A group of Peoria organizations are planning on peacefully protesting the visit to town of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis…speaking at the annual Peoria-Tazewell Lincoln Day dinner.
Groups such as Peoria Proud and Peoria’s ACLU chapter, among others, plan on gathering outside the Kumpf Boulevard side of the Civic Center for speakers, and a drag show Friday afternoon.
Is Tazewell County Republican Party head Jim Rule bothered by all that?
No.
“I do think it invigorates (people) more,” said Rule, to WMBD’s Craig Collins. “It’s a catalyst for conversation. It gets people to talk. It gets them to think a little bit about what’s going on, and where they stand, personally, on different issues.
Rule says Republicans are free thinkers while still supporting certain values. So, he welcomes protesters.
“We know that there’s going to be a lot of protesters in various sorts around the Civic Center and at the courthouse. We welcome that. That’s part of what makes America great,” said Rule.
