PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – A threat of a shooting at Norwood Elementary School turned out to be a hoax.
That’s according to Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins. He says the county’s 911 center received a call threatening a school shooting around noon Friday, and both Norwood Elementary and Primary Schools were put on hard lockdowns.
No threat was found inside the schools.
Watkins says the school district immediately sent notification to parents, with what he says is a large police presence continuing.
Watkins says there have been threats statewide and nationwide today, but he’s not yet ready to call it a “swatting” incident.
An investigation continues.
